The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF)  supports the largest male breast cancer registry study in the world through the collaborative efforts of international investigators from Europe (Breast International Group (BIG) and European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC)), and the US ( North America Breast Cancer Group (NABCG) and Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium (TBCRC)).

The International Male Breast Cancer Study has been fully supported by BCRF for the last eight years, totaling more than $1.8 M to date.  This project, headed by BCRF investigators, Drs. Fatima Cardoso, Champalimaud Cancer Center, Lisbon, Portugal and Sharon Giordano, University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, includes retrospective analysis of 1822 male breast cancer patients treated in the last 20 years in 23 centers from 9 countries, making it the largest series of male breast cancer ever studied. Early results were reported at major scientific conferences last year and have identified unique differences in biology in male breast cancer compared to female breast cancer and an overall lower quality of care for men with breast cancer.
